Deep ruby red color. Blackberries, blueberries, licorice and chocolate in the nose with hints of espresso, tobacco, earthiness and spice. Lots of black fruits in the flavor, blackberries and plums with spice and licorice. Very well balanced with rich concentrated fruit, nice texture and acidity, complex, and a long very smooth finish. 93/94.

Decanted for about an hour. Still quite dark. The overall impression of the wine is very balance, very rich and delicious. Flavour profile leans to dark fruit with a solid finish yet retains lots of freshness for such an old wine. Turley PS Hayne Vyd is one of my favourite wines.

Dinner with the W's and B's (Fiorentini in Rutherford, NJ): This wine was not aired out before arriving at the restaurant, so it only saw about 40 minutes of slo-ox before serving. While this wine probably has many more years of life ahead, it showed its age at this serving. Lots of earth, spice and dark fruits on both the nose and the palate. The acidity was just shy of balancing the heavy and slightly gritty palate. Air out, but drink up. This wine was overshadowed by the 2000 vintage also brought to dinner.

Excellent wine with plenty of life left. (Decades even?) Complex, though not explosive, nose of cigar, potting soil, barbecue spices, blueberries, and blackberries. Thick on the palate with decent acidic brightness and light but gritty tannins. Long finish given the relatively low acidity.
