  • My only bottle. The result of this legand vintage was a 14% alcohol porter like and high VA containing effort. Uppon opening, nose a little watery. 2 hours later, old wine nose with caramel without immature scents. Just little VA. Palate miracly balanced and not tired. Full of hawthon fruit flavors with enough acidity and a little residual sugar. Second round from bottle the nose became integrated and presented a colar flavor. Persistant palate with no alcoholic feel. Lighter and more comfortabe than porter or amarone style. This might be the only Musar that not Musar-like. A treasure, a legand. Hail to Serge Hochar!

  • Grange Park Opera (An evening with Joyce DiDonato). Walnut Tree Restaurant - BYO.
    Reconditioned at Ch Musar.
Aerated and back-decanted for transportation. As per my earlier notes - a unique, almost porty Musar due to the long delay getting the (extremely limited quantity of) grapes to the winery North of Beirut from the Bekaa Valley during the height of the civil war in '84. Hopefully, in the circumstances, never to be reproduced in this style again but nonetheless the finest wine (in my view) that Musar has ever produced.
Perfect accompaniment for our roast fillet of beef and for sipping with a selection of cheese.
Will hold up at least 40yrs from vintage - if not 50.

  • As per my note of December '18. By force majeure a stylistically unique vintage of Musar unsurpassed (in my experience) by any other.
5 more to go - should hold up till 2024 at least.

  • Dinner with friends.
2 bottles back-decanted for 90 minutes; identical characteristics. Unctuous spiced fruit core. Earth, truffle etc (see first note) and the amazing Musar gunflint minerality providing balance. Unique unintentionally outstanding product from a fraught year in Lebanese history.
Good for at least 40yrs from vintage.

  • Reconditioned direct from Ch Musar.
45 minute decant. Dark red/brown, very slightly opaque - significant meniscus. Truffle, earth and spice enveloped by viscous, tongue-coating almost caramelised black hedgefruit. Immense concentration, velvety and intrinsically off-dry but brought into balance with that Musar mineral core that is still very much present. Fabulous; and remarkable given the history of this rare war-affected vintage.
The structure to easily make 40 years from vintage - if not 50. No rush. Eight more to go - do I have the restraint?! 95+
