  • From a half bottle. Not flawed but just very basic and ho hum. This had decent color so.... ???

  • This, IMO shows a perfect balance between fruity things and tertiary things at age 19. It's really nice right now.

Dried porcini mushroom, dust, tomato leaf, old leather, barnyard (strange aromas for Brunello!), smoke and ash on the nose. Smells powdery, if that makes sense. The palate adds smoked meat, red cherries, red strawberries and keeps the leather and mushrooms from the nose, but loses the rest. It tastes younger than it smells. Nice 45 second long finish as well.

Medium + body with medium acid and medium tannin. The structure shows its age a bit; but the flavors of this are really nice. I believe this is fully developed, and at peak. Drink now.

  • Subsequent notes on this wine from 8 years ago. Dark garnet in color with clearing & slight bricking at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of mature, ripe fruits aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, tobacco, mushrooms, leather, tar, cocoa, minerals, herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, mature, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & cranberries with mushrooms, minerals, herbs & some oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but at 19 years of age, it is very close to or at its peak of development, so drink up soon. Ullage was mid-neck; cork was clean & intact.

  • From a 1.5L. Plenty of ripe red and dark fruit, some chalk and leather and plenty of remaining structure. Younger than I expected. Still has some time in this format.
