Big fat unfocused Bordeaux nose. Cedar, graphite, cassis all sloshing around and colliding vs. the seamless experience one might otherwise anticipate in a better year. Fruit is upfront quickly giving way to more developed flavors, particularly pencil, tobacco, and leather with a somewhat sharp finish. This is complex but not fully integrated and the fruit comes up a little short. Undeniable pedigree but needs food to make it happen. That's not necessarily a bad thing, by the way. Revision: goes well with grilled lamb chops, but still has a slightly annoying oily texture.
