  • Feels overrated. Not bad but unlikely to improve

  • Guy's Night: ABBC (Anything but Bordeaux and Chardonnay) (Joe & Khem's Place, Mpls): Deep golden color. PNP, drank a glass over 30 minutes. Lively, floral, tropical, orange, pineapple, honeycomb, mulled spcies on the nose; The palate has Mandarin orange, peach, pineapple, honeycomb, zesty, great acidity, really fresh and lively, lifted medium bodied and very well balanced, with a "wow" botrytis spice profile. 95+ to 96pts.

  • Anything Goes but Cab and Bordeaux! (Joe's Bistro): This was a pleasant surprise! If I didn't own so many Sauternes, I would seek this wine out! Nose showed honeysuckle, tropical fruits and some spice. Palate was remarkable with honeycomb, orange marmalade, some pineapple and Meyers lemon with touch of pie crust, bramble and spice. The mouthfeel was luxurious, light and unctuous, if that makes sense! A very nice way to end the night! Easy 95!

  • Guys night out - ABBC (Anything But Bordeaux or Cabernet): Drank a good-sized glass over 1 hour. This has amazing lift and balance, almost like drinking a champagne in that regard. Of course there is lots of sweetness, but its' so light and effervescent. I can really dig this style of dessert wine.

  • Cork disintegrated. This comes out very golden-orange. I don't have a lot of experience with these Huet / Loire wines so I can't be 100% sure the bottle isn't a bit advanced/cooked. Nose is somewhat muted as I often find with older Chenin. Hints of botrytis, marmalade, spice, tangerine peel. Something very sharp - like kumquat and a bit of botrytis must/mold. The palate is very nice - it enters soft with honey and tangerine, then some of the chenin flavor/funk come in - nice perfume and spice with marmalade and tangerine - it feels soft through the palate, but also light - the acid isn't gripping but it does balance the wine, working in the background. The finish has more lift, a hint of zing, and is nice and wide and complex. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-16.5/20.

Another pour - OK, wow, this seems to be opening up more - the botrytis, the spiciness, the marmalade are all there, but there's something else - really intoxicating, maybe cherries and cherry pits? There is also an added texture and depth in the nose - dark and luxurious like cashmere. The palate is similar to before, but the intensity is up about 10-20% and there is a bit more grip into the end palate and finish. With more air, it's opening even more and the grip is excellent now - both in the palate and finish - very exciting. Tons of spices, marmalade, kumquats, botrytis, cherry, a hint of molasses or coffee. I'll track this over the next few days because it really is improving with air. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17-18/20.
