Mid gold. Still surprisingly almost youthful and fresh. Tons of citrus, lime and grapefruit. Stones and chalk. Light honey. Great acidity. Amazing concentration and then length. Holding up very well.

Ausgezeichnet. Jetzt bis 2040

Dinner at Chengdu Impression (Chicago, IL): Next to the 2014 CFE, this was surprisingly the more Alsatian of the two, with its rounded, yellow fruit and modest hint of sweetness. It doesn't quite have the oiliness of Alsace, but stylistically this is a much broader and fruity wine than I expected. But here, my old preference for the sweet Dönnhoff wines comes through. For whatever reason, this is just made in a style that cries out for a little bit more residual sugar.

Quite extraordinary. I am very parsimonious with my points, but this requires a move into the higher echelon. Straw coloured with some golden in it. The nose is complex, with most relevant elements in presence but without any dominance. Harmony and beauty is the theme here. In the mouth, it is that fluid contradiction of richness, linearity, precision and freshness all at once. Very long, and one of the best white wines I have ever had.

(Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle Riesling Grosses Gewächs) ($75.00) The grandest vintage since the magnificent ’05. Already amazingly complex delineated aromas and flavors; stupendous length and fervid concentration – it occupies your mouth.

Beautiful wine. Great length and very much Hermannshöhle. But lacked a bit of acidity. May be bottle variation.
