Nick A's Burgundy Series, 2011 Edition, kids table: Lovely nose, earth, red fruits. On the palate, a little bit confected perhaps? A hint of parma violet, all in balance, a really nice drop. Of the two wines of the flight this was the better, but the difference wasn't huge (perhaps the difference between a B+ and a B-) - I rather suspect that swapping it round, the 10 Geantet-Pansiot v the 11 Joliet would have led to a much bigger disparity. Really enjoyed this and sadly, as with all Burgundy these days, a quick trip to wine-searcher puts me right back in my box.

Nick's 2011 Burgundies (Noizé): Medium dark red, more immediate appeal than the Fixin alongside. Black cherry and olive tapenade, beautifully smooth, the purity and completeness of the Gevrey fruit coming through loud and clear. If this is 2011 I want more vintages like this, it’s great.

Nick A's 2011 Burgundy Horizontal (Table 2) (Noizé, London): This starts out a little funky with some fermented strawberry shortcake, but some air sees a more classical red fruited character come together on the nose. Palate is a little more on the darker fruit with some spiced damsons and ripe raspberries with a little ground black pepper.

This benefitted from a 3 hour decant but was mostly open for business after 90 minutes. Bright fruit up front with nice balance and an average finish. This is still on the youngish side but no crime in opening now. Probably 3-5 years out from prime and at least another decade of optimal drinking. Revisit 2026.

Appearance: dark ruby. Nose: quite intense. Sweet red and dark fruits dominate, nicely perfumed. Some minor savoury notes - minerality, a bit of earth and mushroom.
Palate: medium to full bodied. Rich texture with intense flavour, not particularly austere in style. Balance is good. Finished a bit short at first but was fine once it opened up after the decant. Still a baby, I'd give it another 5 years.
