Superb owl Sunday (Chicago, IL): An excellent bottle of Gréal from the second best producer on the hill (no prizes for guessing the first). Very structural, without the fruit being too expressive right now. There's definitely a lot of good material here, and you definitely get a good sense of the brineyness and acidic backbone right now. Probably best not to revisit for a decade; I certainly won't be opening any of mine.
What a wine! A majestic Hermitage with all the tell-tale notes of ilves, beef, tar, black fruit, yet with a smooth elegance, that impresses me. #LesMangevins #Tain #PB

Opens up with a Cote-Rôtie-like nose of dried flowers, blue berries and tar. Moves on the palate with elegance and finesse, there is great balance here, dark berries, tobacco notes, soil and soft tannins. One of the best Hermitage wines I’ve had in a long long time. At Mangevins in Tain.

An evening with Sorrel and Gerin (Uncorked, Bishopsgate): A bit closed; Guillaume Sorrel says it needs another ten years, although I might have said five. Has obvious power, reflecting the heat of the vintage. Chewy, muscular, somewhat bitter, tannins remain prominent.
