Decanted for 8 hours (no trace of sediment), the Cuvee Viva poured into the glass as a delightful ruby red wine, possessing all the attributes that the average wine-lover craves: a pleasant, mouth-filling flavor that paired beautifully with the Chateaubriand on our plates. While its tannins were pleasantly soft, it did not lack balance and strength of character. Excellent value for the money!

Almost 100% Merlot with maybe a bit of Cabernet Franc from the Cöte de Blaye on the right bank of the Gironde. Beautiful deep youthful purple-red color with on the nose outspoken aromas of red berries and a bit of new oak. On the palate also a taste of fresh red berry-juice with its typical high acidity, very soft tannins and a short finish. In terms of style it reminded me a bit of a reasonably good Beaujolais 🙂. Not bad, certainly at the low price of 12,00€, but quite one-dimensional. This wine is not made for the long haul and this bottle might already be a bit past its prime.

This is the new New World of cheap Bordeaux. Not overextracted. Not hot. Bright red fruits and cranberry. “Freshness” (every wine critic’s favorite new word) abound. Silky tannins hiding behind mouthwatering acidity. Really I only wish it had some more earth or savory characteristics. And when you consider that it’s doing all this with 100% merlot, I’m impressed! Flirting with 92.
