I had considerable reservations about this wine - previous bottles (the last in 2022) having been rather disjointed. But this bottle was very good. 5 hour decant and served at 16c it had wonderful balance and freshness. Plenty of fruit left but not at all heavy - a pleasant surprise give the vintage. There is a burnt edge to the fruit - not unpleasant however. Plenty of life left on this showing..

From 375 ml… Wild bouquet, minty-menthol, whiffs of vintage port like figs and incense, lifted with a touch of spirit. Spicy, mentholated palate, quite light and bright with some kitschy-rubbery layers, not much fruit or structure left. Interesting, intense and long, but probably was better before the fruit evaporated.

(Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape) This was a victim of this horrendously hot and dry vintage. Jammy, black and overripe fruit. Some heat showing and just tasted like liquid raisins. That's what happens when you harvest raisins, you get raisin juice. I love Beaucastel but not this year.
(Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape) Big ripe cherry, hint of licorice, vanilla nose; nice plush entry, sweet ripe fruit, with good sous bois; medium-plus finish 93+ pts.
(Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape) Sharp nose of pungent plum with floral notes and a hint of something savory; tasty ripe plum and cherry palate; medium tart cherry finish 92+ pts.

This bottle was slightly oxidised although drinkable. I had a wonderful bottle only a month ago so there is bottle variation.

Similiar experience to my notes in the summer of 2023. Thoroughly enjoyed with great company.
