  • Brilliant specimen that was still intact and probably what the wine maker had in mind when it was bottled in 2000. Slight bricking color with earthy under tones. No real reduced "port" like flavors, but still cherry and fig on the palate. Tannins have slipped into the background and almost no sediment. Opened 2 hours before serving with no splash decant.

  • Allowed to decant for 45 minutes and never gained momentum. Storage was consistent and cork showed no evidence of being tainted, but the wine appears to be past its prime. All flavors were muted and a bit musky.

  • Stood up for 2 weeks, decanted off significant sediment. Age-appropriate light ruby-tawny color; medium intensity aromatics, a bit of balsamic and soy; palate is light bodied, high acidity, high but approachable tannins, a bit of soy though not a lot of fruit; finish is medium-minus length. This feels like it's a bit over the hill, unfortunately, though the balance is still OK. Let's see what happens with a bit of air. 86 for now.
Double decanted for hours, not really any improvement. This wine was better younger...

  • Corked, unfortunately. Too bad... I gave this a solid hour to blow off but it did not.

  • The nose came off very concentrated with dried, almost caramelized figs and colheita vibes, most of the nebbiolo caracteristicas was kind off masked or just deeply integrated in to each other, but i could still find some rose/floral notes.
But if i was given this wine blindfolded, i dont think i would be able to say that it was a barolo.

On the palet it was smooth, with vibrant acid, and spicey fruit.
It went oh so very well with truffles and tartar…..
