A bit of a surprise - Gouges normally has a dark black fruit profile but this was lean, light and Chambolle-like with whispy notes of cherry and stalky fruit. I'd say this was shut down a bit right now and will open up with time but lacks the punch you would expect.
This got better with 2-3 hours or air, but I would still consider it austere. Medium color with a nose of muted spices. The fruit is there but under the weight of tannins, albeit silky ones. I will not open one for at least another 10 years. Maybe magic in a bottle will happen.
