Wine has been resting peacefully for 41 years. Garnet look with loamy barnyard smell to it. Fruits had subsided a bit and there was a big drop off of fruit after opening the bottle an hour later. Didn’t really open up much after the drop off. Still a very good experience. Compared this wine to a 1982 Chateau Gruaud Larose which was showing very nicely.

Bottle was into neck, broken cork when opening. Clear matured bordeaux from a great vintage. Some dark fruits left, well developed and round. Very good balance and very satisfying if you like matured bordeaux.

Having tasted other Chateau 1982, was slightly disappointed. Notes of tea, spices, toast, charr wood, cooked black fruits, meaty. Medium acidity and medium tannin. Tannin fully integrated and medium bodied.

Pnp. Clear cork to my surprise however as the fill was only between top tp high shoulder. Some musty notes of forest floor and cork as they appear so often in older Bordeaux. Otherwise a fully resolved, light to medium bodied Bordeaux with very nice balance. Fairly short. Would drink remaining bottles now.

I opened this up to accompany steaks, hopeful that the 1982 vintage would give this some heft. What I found was a very light and elegant expression fo Bordeaux. The nose is of dried cherries, dried currants, dry hay, old leather, crushed gravel, thyme, and faint celery seed. The palate is totally resolved showing zero remaining tannin and medium red fruited acid. The finish isn't terribly long but is quite pleasant and very classically bordeaux. Very nice effort here by Carbonnieux.
