Nutty and a bit smoky note that Chenin takes on with age. Clear but tending toward an amber color. Rich, full taste, and long, round finish. Enjoyed by all six others at the table...but Esther, who said it tasted "old".

I loved it. Esther thought it "too old and Madeirized" Tremendous character. The nuttiness that comes with age. Rich and almost creamy. On the edge of sweet. Lots of tree fruit.

Chenin Fest: 28 Loire Chenin Blancs from 1995 - 1997. (Don Rice's.): My last bottle and perhaps its best showing. Just a hint of normal oxidation given its 20 years, but no real nuttiness. Clean and big boned with plenty of palate presence. There's a pleasant waxiness to the wine as well as an enjoyable creaminess to the mouthfeel and maybe just a touch of alcohol sticking out on the finish. Plenty of quince, yellow fruit and mineral showing. Wish I had more. A-.

Less truffle than the 1996, more rubber and tertiary aromas. Very nice taste profile, much more full bodied than last bottle 7-8 years ago. This has really taken on weight. Great food wine, bone dry but with considerable extract. Amazing acidity, so crisp and penetrating.
