This is one of those wines that defies the point scales. I’ll add a score because if I was buying it at auction or somesuch I would want that. I can’t remember buying this bottle but it must have been 10+ years ago and that changes the way I think about it. It’s a beautiful wine from a difficult vintage. I’m not that familiar with Aux Thorey but it reminds me a bit more of Montille’s home base in Volnay. It evolved quite a bit with slow ox over a few hours. The nose is there, the palate is a little loose but it’s there. This is a Burgundy lover’s wine. Went extremely well with the first cracked crab of the season, and drawn butter.

Elegant and open, no harsh tannins or screaming acidity. Silky, with notes of black cherry, sous bois and burnt leaves. Not a very deep wine but certainly a classic Cote de Nuits.

Brief note from memory (tasted over 30 hours). Nose quite pure and clean with red berries, pommes granade and some earthy notes. Transparent feel, also in the mouth. Problem with the palate for me is that it is too thin on the attack and mid palate. Some more punch towards the finish, but overall more dull.

In a great drinking window, mellow cherry fruit and sous bois. Nothing complex but a very tasty aged red burg.
