  • Served in a testing of mature California Cabernets this was one of the highlights of the evening (along with the 1985 Joseph Phelps Eisele Vineyard and the 1995 Forman). The Araujo had deep purple color with minimal separation at the edges. It was redolent with rich black fruit and dark chocolate with a concentrated, long, sweet finish. It seemed to intensify with time and after sitting for two hours, it was soft and very aromatic. Lovely wine! Sadly my last bottle as it has years of life left.

  • Opened and decanted for sediment. Absolutely gorgeous small taste. Back in the bottle and slow ox for a few hours before bringing to dinner. So excited to pair it with Wagyu tartare. Poured at the restaurant and badly corked. I guess I missed on opening and the TCA “bloomed” with the exposure to air? This was from a friend’s cellar who purchased on release. Bummer! Hoping for a better outcome next time.

  • Tee’d this bottle up for the main course at The Barn. If I had to do it all over again I would have decanted and served slightly chilled.

Regardless of the miss calculated approach, this wine is wonderfully youthful considering 27 years in the bottle. Blossoming in 4th quarter with a strong finish. The fruit was the star of the show. Missing was some of the tertiary flavors I love from this bottling. Hold if you love those notes as well.

This is my second purchased of the 95 bottling from BWG and both have been in perfect condition.

  • Wow. What a nose. Dark red fruits mingle with vanilla and hints of damp soil
Perfectly seemless on the palate with loads of sweet red and black fruits.
A spice laced finish with lightly gripping tannin lingers on.
This spectacular and will drink well for another 5-10 years most likely.
