P&P - With some age, the smoke and green olive traits have faded to the back ground with no less of flavor or complexity. In fact, this Impulsivo has a layered complexity within its soooo savory and tasty profile that it was a pure joy last night. I would add that I think this is at peak, and should hold another 5 years but I woundn’tpush it beyond that.

Impressively rich as you would expect from Cayuse but not as feral as some. Faint nose, non-description finish. I couldn’t tell this was Tempranillo but then I don’t drink much Spanish wine. No development in the glass, no real focus. So pretty good as a strong genetic red wine but not memorable.

(Cayuse Vineyards Tempranillo En Chamberlain Vineyard Walla Walla Valley) Pencil box, exotic spices, floral notes, and more overt oak aromas than seen on most of the Cayuse wines. Plump, ripe, and full on the palate with waves of dark fruit. 100% Tempranillo. 208 cases produced.
(Cayuse Vineyards Impulsivo En Chamberlin Vineyard Barrel Sample Walla Walla Valley) Dark to the point of being opaque. An intriguing nose with pepper, licorice, and ripe berries. Richly flavored with mineral and light game. Considerably more tannic structure than the other wines sampled here. 100% Tempranillo. 14.7% alcohol. To be released in 2010. Note: Case production not available until wines bottled this Spring.

Dark fruit, minerality, and earthy notes on the nose and palate with resolving tannins on the silky smooth finish.
