  • Burgundy and pinot noir (Wink Wine Bar): Ten of our tasters and three groups tasting four classic chambolle musignys. The Dujac chambolle is recognized as a great value, hence the price continues to creep up. This is premier cru quality masquerading as a village wine. An average vintage, this 1997 was the favorite of one group, the least favorite of the other two groups, but all were complimentary. Resolved, balanced, and soft, the wine showed floral, rose-petal, and mineral notes. It had some blackberry, bell pepper, and green flavors, and had the least alcohol (13%) of our chambolles. The wine may have been a bit past its prime, and the 1997 Dujac Morey St. Denis tasted recently was richer. Still a lovely village wine which has doubled in price over the past years, and may even be a bargain.

  • Popped and poured. Color is a nice brick red showing browning towards the rim. Cloudy appearance as well. Initial nose still showing some good red fruits with a slight mustiness that blew off quickly. Initial taste is quite good showing good balance with some acidity. From what I had read about 97, low acidity plagued the vintage, but this showed more acidity than I expected and really created a very pretty wine. Continued to develop a little bit over a couple hours but didnt improve significantly. Good combination of fruit and secondary earthy/mushroomy characteristics. Finish is a little bit short but as expected for a village wine. There was a scent on the nose that I have had in the last couple aged burgundies that I can't really put my finger on it, to me its like a faint cinnamon but I can't figure out what exactly it is. I think this is probably close to peak and wont improve much from here.

  • Drank at Nate's and did not take notes but this is what I recall. Nose: Originally a musty aroma present but very quickly burned off to reveal celery, and an earthy aroma akin to an underground cellar (very interesting). Palate: Very subtle fruit with mainly mushroom, and earth flavors. Nice bright acid finish (almost lemony). This wine was very feminine and subtle which from what I hear is typical of a good Chambolle. I know very little of Burgundy, but this wine was a nice change up from the usual more fruit focused Pinots of CA and OR that I usually favor.
