  • This is just not very good in my opinion. Flat and uninspiring and I usually love Barbera!

  • I confess a soft spot for the wines of Matteo Correggia prior to his untimely death in the vineyard, so when I saw the '99 Marun for $20 in an auction it felt more like homage than a smart buy, but that's ok. 11 year old barbera, you pays your money you takes your chances. This is surprisingly attractive for its age, with big blowsy fruit (blowsy, blowzy [ˈblaʊzɪ] adj blowsier, blowsiest, blowzier blowziest 1. (esp of a woman) untidy in appearance; slovenly or sluttish.

Deep red plummy fruit, minerals, leather and a very soft nearly tannin-less finish. Becoming a little angular in its old age, it is on the downslope but still happily consumed. The good news is that I probably would have liked the 14.5% alcohol less at an earlier stage. Compares favorably to recent experiences with '00 and '01 La Spinetta barberas for what that's worth.

  • A terrific Barbera. Deep, saturated colour. Full-bodied and juicy. Still fresh after all the years. Lots of berry aromas, smooth and silky. Still going strong. Long finish. Tasted 5 times with consistent notes.
