  • 96 & 98 side-by-side. Decanted for ~7 hours. Forward and alluring aromas as soon as the cork was pulled that broadened/intensified with air. So much cherry and balsamic fruit with floral and smoke accents. Nicely integrated structure. In the middle of a long peak drinking window.

  • Double decanted, drunk an hour later.
One guest called it a year past its prime, the acidity rising, fruit falling.
Good, but certainly not spectacular, and in that respect, considering the vintage, well stored, etc. a disappointment.
Very slight brick at the meniscus. Good attack on the nose, earthy dark berry tart red berry components. The promise unfulfilled in the mouth. Did we give it insufficient time to open up? I set aside the remainder and will return to these notes if I find improvement later.

    Rated +1 on a scale of -1 to +3.

  • Earth and forest floor when first opened: lots of dirt on the nose. Tight after two hours of opening, but by the sixth hour the cherry fruit was fresher than at anytime before. Refreshing, nice acidity. Very well balanced. Hold for another year before trying again. A beautiful wine.
