  • The '19 Ca'Mia is an austere young Barolo, and a bit difficult to understand right now, but I don't find the depth of fruit or complexity to suggest it will ever be a particularly great wine. As with the Rocche and Villero, this simply lacks the magic of the '13 and '16 wines from Brovia.

On the nose, orange peel, menthol, dark red floral tones, pure red berry fruit, and spices emerge with a bit of reluctance. On the palate, again the wine lacks a bit in fruit, with orange peel, red floral tones, raw meat, mint, and a bit of red fruit sweeping across the palate, with firm but fine grained tannins drying the mouth. High acidity provides plenty of energy here. Texturally, the problem is not that the tannins are overwhelming, it is more so that the wine lacks depth of fruit to buffer the tannins.

I've had the Ca'Mia and the Villero, tasted side by side, opened a few hours, letting them sit in the glass for a while, but I will update later if they show differently with more air or on day 2.

  • With Alex

Terrific serralunga perfume. Intoxicating really. Cherry fruit, roses, spice, and balsam very floral. Full and beautifully balanced on the palate, it's broad and deep. Sapid and expansive. Above all it is harmonious. Firm more obviously structured tannins. Long balsamic finish.
