  • An auction purchase from 2011, this became the center wine for a dinner at Blue Hill Stone Barns with a family member who recently turned 100! The bottle's label was fascinating because under "Beaune Theurons" was printed "Grand Cru" - and then in the corner, at an angle, was stamped "Appellation Controlee." Clearly this bottle had been labeled prior to the introduction of the Appellation Controlee laws in the early 1930s!

This wine followed the 1934 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin, and formed an interesting comparison. The Chambertin had greater depth, which made sense given its status a real Grand Cru, but it had to overcome some Volatile Acidity. The Jadot Theurons had no VA, and showed a beautiful, nuanced nose of sandalwood, a touch tart and a bit delicate at first. As this sat in the glass it became fuller and fuller, and was thoroughly enjoyable. A fitting wine for the event.
