Four Bottles for a Football and Taco Night (Our Los Olivos Home): Showing nice freshness and intensity, with concentrated black fruit, bitter chocolate and a touch of smoke. A bit "heavier" than I would have preferred, missing a touch of energy, as if weighed down by more alcohol than the 13.5% showing on the label.

Clear deep ruby; clean medium nose of shortbread, cinnamon, vanilla, dried plum, dried red cherry, violet and cocoa; dry; medium plus acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; pfn with sweet red cherry predominating; medium plus finish; outstanding quality; comes across as refined, delicate and elegant but we were disappointed with the finish and intensity for the price point

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with fading garnet rim and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry, cassis and dark plum, red fruit of redcurrant, dried fruit of prune, oak notes of smoke, pungent spice of black pepper and juniper, maturity notes of savory. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium alcohol and medium (+) body, with medium flavours of black fruit of plum and blackberry, red fruit of red cherries, oak notes of smoke, kernel notes of chocolate and walnut. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Merlot with an intense nose showing good complexity, the wine has a well-balanced palate, having integrated tannin, showing nice and robust body. Concentrated in flavors, the wine has a good finish and is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Menthol, plum, and pen ink on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, currant, and notes of plum and earth, with silky tannins and acidity well in balance with the fruit. This isn't quite as good as the 2007, but it's still excellent, and it was a bargain at about $60; at the normal price of over $100 this would be an average to poor value.
