  • Merlot in purezza, invecchiato 23 anni. Al naso un mix di profondi profumi di frutti a bacca rossa e terziari splendidamente amalgamati. Al palato amplifica il piacere dato dai profumi con un vino eccezionalmente elegante, con tannini di fine forza ma velati, struttura importantissima, equilibrio e persistenza altissima. Spettacolare.

  • # 3 of 16 merlots tasted double blind. I brought this one to the tasting, but had never tried this before. Purchased off wine-bid so you never know what your are going to get and I think this one was flawed. Opened and decanted for 1 hour prior to the tasting. On the nose definitely old world (leather and earth) and browning a bit in color so seems to have some age. On the palate there is no fruit here, just leather, earth and tobacco followed by a huge hit of acidity on the finish. Doesn't improve with time and air. I think it is flawed and and another taster confirms that it is corked.

  • Q2 2017 Tasting - The Anti-Sideways (aka Merlot) (The Apt): Wine #3: First taste of this was very much dirt and spice and leather and very much an old world wine. I revisited later and it seemed like the wine was just a touch off. Age very clear here. (3 pennies)

  • Quite complex and deep on the nose, with a good structure (especially for a Merlot), coupled with a long finish. Beautiful in an effortlessly controlled way.

  • Very graceful wine with sophisticated restraint. On the nose, this wine felt completely Italian/Tuscan, I would not have guessed merlot; I would have guessed a Chianti or Super Tuscan. Then on the palate, this same impression follows. The wine feels like something I would happily have with pappardelle with cingiale. I think it's one heck of a disciplined merlot and a real contrast to new world examples. On the nose, the usual cherry/berry but very clean and proper. This follows on the palate with minute hints of citrius peel. Finish is medium. I think it is drinking nicely now with a fine meal, but it will get leaner during decanting and then the structure stands out a bit more in a mouth coating way especially on the finish.
