pnp, consumed over 5 hours. the wife wanted some wine, and i figured this bottle was probably at or past prime. it's been laying on its side for years. most of the sediment was collected at the neck, and some tartaric crystals on the base of the cork, with just a little sediment in the very last glass. so basically, yes it could use to be stood up for a day before consuming, but it's not a requirement.
what a glorious expression of cabernet. chocolate, cinnamon, roasted blackberry, a little pie crust. it deeply fruited in the mouth with fully integrated tannins, so silky but not velvety. a long, feminine finish of more chocolate and sweet black fruit. no overt oak that i perceived.
for an off-vintage, this was great. altamura is fantastic in its youth, then enters an awkward phase in years 5-8, then rebounds gloriously. i'd put this up blind to significantly more expensive wines from this vintage. if scoring, 94-96. i can't think of anything else i'd want out of a 2000 napa cab with 15 years of age. and i think this could go on for many more years. outstanding stuff

A little Jammy but softened with age. Nice secondary notes coming through. Decanted for 2 hrs. This only has a short drinking window left.

Really nice mix of fruits, savory soy and acidity. Mature. Drinking well.

All secondary notes and whispers of stewed fruit predominate, not a whole lot left here, enjoyable remembrance of what was. NR, just not fair
