On the lighter side, with some rusticity to the tannins that did not stop me from digging all the cassis, bright red cherries, leaf, herbs and tobacco. Blind, this reminded me of a mature Classified Pauillac.

A perfect bottle, courtesy of CabFan, thank you. Identical to another bottle 3 months ago. Healthy old wine color, maroon with orange rim and no brown. Extraordinary aroma of fallen oak leaves, brown sugar and raw beef. Liquid velvet on the palate and clearly very low alcohol with the complexity of great age, soft tannins, good acidity. Held well in the glass for 1.5 hours. By far the oldest California Cabernet I have been privileged to drink and emphatic proof that it can age for decades, a game changer.

Fully mature. Noticeable but not notable palate elements. Has enough structure left to be sufficient with the right food. There may be better bottles out there

OK, mind blown. I had never thought twice about this winery and here I am more impressed by the 59 and 68 Charles Krugs than with the 53 and 64 Lafites.
Oops, is my California showing?

(Charles Krug Winery (Peter Mondavi Family) Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection) Bricking medium red violet color; aromatic, mature, dried red currant, light balsamic, walnut nose; mature, walnut, dried red currant, dried cherry, cedar palate with good balancing acidity; medium-plus finish (12.6% alcohol; 35 months in American oak; 61% of the fruit from the home vineyard; good bottom of the neck fill on this bottle)
