  • A very nice and really mature Barbera where you really get mature fruit - it is cherries and cleary also black currant - was also getting hints of tobacco - well balanced still medium tannins and acidity. Happy to increase to 91 on my last bottle.

  • This is a very nice but not spectacular wine. There's nothing wrong with very nice, and this is probably in the top 5% of all the wine produced in the world, considering how much plonk there is. Think of how much Mateus, Manischewitz and Reunite there is and you will appreciate how this wine is outstanding on a relative scale.

Popped and poured with sausage and peppers. As it took on air it developed that earthy forest floor Italian thing. I know it's a sin to refer to Italian wine as a group, but I've had enough wine blind where my correct response was I don't know what it is, but it's from Italy to believe there is something common even across regions no. Technique? Barrels? Proximity to good hard cheese?

This wine is very soft and smooth with very light tannins, which is characteristic of Barbera. Red fruit with no tannic bite. Zero. Nicely balanced and presents as an integrated whole. There is no wood component in the flavor profile. From the website it appears that the wine is aged partly in neutral oak and partly in steel, which fits with what I tasted. When the in Rome a few years ago, we had a 1978 Barbera off a restaurant list as a curiosity and it was quite pleasant despite its age. My guess is that this wine will hold up for at least a few more years so I will space out my two remaining bottles through its tenth anniversary.

  • Just a bit disappointing. Muted fruits, daggy fruits, old school funk. Doesn't get going. Might be traditional but the modern take is far more appealing to me.

  • Two years after my first one, I'm drinking my last one, and I like it more than ever. On night one it took about one hour to open up. After that it was redolent of ripe red fruit and minerals, with a lovely medium-weight mouth feel, balanced acid and tannin, and a nice residual sweetness, with medium length. Great structure and elegance. On night two this wine had all those characteristics, but with subtle and lovely barnyard notes and more pronounced residual sweetness. Once again, great structure and elegance.
