  • Nice wine. Decent fruit, with a bit of ink / iodine undertone. While I'd like to think this would gain more complexity with age, I'm skeptical. Does not seem to have the structure (tannins, acidity) to warrant holding. My short-hand on this one is that it's a perfectly good weeknight wine with simple red meat (burgers tonight), and one that if it were hypothetically available, would make a nice low to mid-priced addition to a restaurant wine list.

  • 90 This wine is still very young with a strong fruit profile, well balanced, good weight and a long finish. Hope it gets more complex with more time in the bottle.

  • It smells like oak, blackberry, medium toast, blueberry, chocolate and black currant (cassis). The body is medium. The wine finishes long. It tastes like oak, black currant (cassis), coffee, black pepper, chocolate, red currant and toast.

  • Appearance: Clear wine with a deep ruby colour and bright red rim.

Nose: Clean nose with a Medium intensity. This wine is developing.

On the nose this wine is lean and savoury with fresh blackberries, sage, crushed rock, earth and evidence of light oak contact.

    Palate:
    Dry
    Medium acidity
    Medium alcohol
    Medium tannins
    Medium intensity
    Medium- body
    Medium finish

The palate reflects the nose with the minerality of crushed rock being especially pronounced. A medium earthy finish is slightly alcoholic and hot. The body is slightly thin and whilst this not a bad wine - it certainly isn't my cup of tea.

Acceptable quality Mencia from Bierzo. I would think this wine should be drank within the next year or so and at 7-8 euros a bottle, good QPR. I can't help but feel this is a wine that needs to accompany food to get the most out of the experience.
