  • Bottle was now a bit past its best. One could detect how it would have been a few years ago, but it wasn't wearing well.

  • London CT Event II (The Hide Bar, London): This was big and in y'ur face. Not what I expected and too much really. Drank better than first impressions but everytime you wanted a drink you had to have a fight first. This has still got time though - I thought it was getting close to the end of its drinking window but it isn't

  • London CT II Event (The Hide Bar, London): Big big whack of fruit on the nose here - all smoke, flint and butter. Almost too much - I can see what they are trying to do here, but everything is turned up to the max. Sometimes less is more. In the mouth there is acidity to balance off the big palate and nose but really it is quite overwhelming. A shame because there is great ingredients here - it really could offer up something special but too sweet, too cloying.

  • Curious one this, not at all what I was expecting. Very pale yellow, tight minerally nose, giving very little. Clean entry, again mineral and quite dense, but very little obvious/overt fruit and certainly nothing that would suggest new world chardonnay. Maybe just a fraction more alcohol than would be typical but otherwise I'd call this as an one or two year old grand Cru Chablis that needs a decade to open up. Mineral, some lime fruit and slightly chalky tannin/texture to the finish. Good structure. This is very good infact but is it typical? Seems like it needs a decade to evolve but this goes against the back label that suggests it should be in the middle or towards the end of its drinking window. Jeremy Oliver also has this down as 'under-performing' its usual level and for early drinking. Anyway, not what I was expecting, but **(**).

  • More restrained than previous vintages I've tried of this, still some oak and malo influence, but there is more citrus and minerality too. Good length and depth to the palate.
