I liked this a good more than I did a few months ago. A real nice, pure Saumur this time. Replete with a hint of brett. Darkly fruited with hints of herbaceousness. Medium stout tannin. The fruit is still a bit rich, not having lost all its baby fat yet. I still don't see the hope for real depth or complexity yet this still borders on the compelling.

Nose shows cigar, dried herbs, raspberry and tea. A bit of heat. The palate palate shows somewhat plush up front but then goes quickly lean and tannic towards the finish. The tannin is actually quite astringent still. Maybe this ripened quickly and they picked while the stems and seeds were still green. There is also a hint of mature overtones on the palate, like the nose. Its a nice, solid Cab Franc overall but doesn't really show the sort of grace or complexity on the palate that elevates it above the basics. Which is a shame. I'm a big fan of this houses' more basic Tuffe bottling which remains one of the better values out there.

No formal note but youthful and drinking well now - I suspect that it has many years ahead - plenty of fruit.

Everything I like about cab franc. Sour cherry acidity, woodsy funk, red and green pepper notes, super easy drinking.
