Good but not great. Very savory, with fruit in a supportive role. But the inky and earthy components aren’t quite as intriguing as you might hope. Needs air, and still exhibiting some raspy tannins , so maybe more cellar time will help. But I’m not sure.

Drinking this alongside a bottle of the Chinon Domaine de la Perriere 1999, the Baudry-Dutour is the better wine. In comparison, this is a little thin on the palate, although on opening the aromatics promised rather more. What lingers on the tongue is the slightly bitter tannins, with no richness or fruit. Both years were promising vintages spoiled for many vignerons by September rains. I feel myself working through this case rather than looking forward to the next bottle.

Old vines, though not as old as the top cuvee Les Favettes. Perhaps this is going for a dumb phase as it approaches the ten year mark as I found it rather one dimensional and bland. No rough edges and some length but no complexity, sense of place or Cabernet Franc typicity - rather overly sweet fruit. Decanted and drunk over 3 nights to see if there was any development, which to be fair there was on the third night.

Much better than my June 2016 bottle. This has come round deliciously. A point and now typique.

Stunning nose, sherbet, red fruits. Bright frail dark violet colour. Smooth, bright red fruits, musty savoury flavours, long, firm tannins, blimey, lovely. So drinkable.
