Part 1 Produttori del Barbaresco 2009 horizontal. Aired for a few hours in bottle prior. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tar earth, rose petals, dark red cherries. Very happy for the classic tar and roses here. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tar, sweet spices, melted rose petals, dark red cherries, savoury earth, leather and meat. Long finish. Very good quality. Wine of the lineup. Clear favourite and bottle was finished on the night.

Opened for two hours put the cork back in and took it to one of our local BYOB's where they were nice enough to decant it for us. Dark red fruit on the nose. The palate was cherry, leather, tobacco and hints of spice leading to a moderately long finish.

'09 Barbaresco - what else do you need to know? All of the Produttori Riserva from this vintage are great, some a little more great that some others. This one is probably in the latter group, but still an excellent wine.

I really love where this wine is- the tannins are a little high but aromatically this is absolutely on point and there is still ample fruit to cover the tannic structure. I tend to enjoy nebbiolo at age 15-20 but I have opened these a bit earlier after hearing that the winemaker thinks they peak around age 10, and I’ve been happy with that choice.
