  • Bottle no. 6698. 14% ABV. Decanted for three hours in the morning, poured over dinner. Red fruit, strawberry, red cherry, rose petal, light earth, tobacco, marzipan, a hint of chocolate, spices, and clove, with good acidity, well-integrated tannin, and very good length. Smoothly textured and well balanced. Light on its feet. A beautiful Nebbiolo! In a great place, no reason to hold.

  • Pretty aromatics of florals, strawberries, cherries. It is still moderately tannic with cherries, balsamic, figs, brown sugar. A finish that lingers, but the tannins kick in with a vengeance. There is no rush on this. If you love Nebbiolo, this will be in your wheelhouse.

  • Flaske nr 2. Dekantert i karaffel. Mørk burgunder farge. Lys kant uten bruning. Roser, tjære, tobakk, sort trøffel, kirsebær, markjordbær og kald nypete. Kjølig frukt med fin modning. Tanniner som i kald sort te. Fantastisk vin.

  • Dekantert og to timer i karaffel.

  • The 2004 Produttori Riservas: Asili wins by a nose (Magnum Society, Wellington, New Zealand): Served single blind. Picked as likely the Moccagatta. A lighter, garnet colour, appearing the most mature on the table. More savoury aromas. Earth, dry brush, tobacco, dried herbs with some rich, ripe red fruit. Also, some bacon and yeasty Marmite elements. The Moccagatta was described by Barbara as showing "some wild, feral notes". On palate, in my view, a small step up from the Pajè. Again, showing that lovely, fresh 2004 Barbaresco acidity. Seeming a considerably lighter weight than the wines to come. It had a nice opulent entry to the palate, but then it fell a little short on the finish. Some oxidated notes. Soil, spice, chocolate and funk. However, the Cru complemented particularly well the braised beef dish. A wine to drink sooner rather than later. My rating 6/7, group rating 7/7.
