-- decanted 1 hr before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over a few hours --
NOSE: spicy cigarbox; "dark"; concentrated plum; hints of anise and molasses; not funky.
BODY: medium-full bodied; rustic garnet color of deep depth.
TASTE: cigarbox; ripe, and full-flavored, but not OTT: dark & smoky; no brett; not hot; tannins are a touch drying; medium-low to medium acidity; this is much gutsier than many '04 CdPs I've had; tannins may ultimately win the race with this wine, but there's still lots of fruit left: Drink Now through 2025. Ash gut impression score: 91 – 92.

From a bottle purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this youthful-appearing, opaque ruby blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre is not anywhere close to its demise. Still loaded with tarry black bramble fruits, Provençal herbs and beautiful floral elements, it is a full-bodied, freshly acidic red with well-woven alcohol (listed as 14%), fully assimilated oak and tannins that still carry some grip. Dense on the middle palate, it goes on to finish long and with impressive lift. This is a Châteauneuf that, assuming properly cellared, will live well beyond my previous predictions as well as those of the pundits. Drink now-2030.

Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club"; Chateauneuf du Pape (@ My place): Deep bouquet with dark berries, rustic impressions, licorice and also still primary fruits. On the palate dark berries, licorice, garrigue, beautiful acidity and some pleasant sweetness. Delicious wine with still some bite and good bitterness.

From a pristinely-cellared bottle, this wine (a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre ) was decanted off of its sediment and serially tasted over 3-4 hours. Still a youthful deep ruby/red, it requires a full two hours before flaunting a bouquet of tarry black bramble fruit, loamy earth, white pepper and lavender. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14%), it delivers black fruit, anise, and bittersweet cocoa flavors that are wrapped with medium-weight tannins. The middle palate is dense and the finish is lengthy. I suspect that this wine is just beginning to "blossom." Well-cellared bottles should last several more years and will, in fact, likely improve. This wine may merit a higher score in the future. Drink now-2022.

(Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet) Lovely spicy nose with plum, lavender and horseradish nose; tasty, meaty palate with horseradish; medium finish
(Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet) Intriguing peppery, savory nose; tasty but tight, medium bodied, garrigue and pepper palate with firm tannins; medium finish

Tired, lacking freshness, a short, confused wine.
