On the nose, it has rich notes of oak and red fruits. On the palate, it is quite intense and rich, sweeter than most other CSJ. It is nice to drink now, but with plenty of potential for the next 10+ years.

From the nose, you think you’re in for a petting zoo barnyard wet sheep moment, but on the palate, the animale element is nuanced, existing more as a subtlety that accompanies the profile rather than trying to own it. On the palate, notes of red berry, red currant, muddled strawberry, smoke, duck skin cracklings, burnt orange rind, earth, iodine, rust/iron, and mushroom cruise across the delivery in a smooth and effortless fashion. A little thin mid-palate, but finishing with enough push to keep the flavors in motion. Air helped to deepen it slightly. A wine certainly transitioning into its tertiary maturities. Drink now and over the next decade (depending on how much you favor fruit and energy).

At LQV in Wan Chai Hong Kong - The wood is extremely pronounced on the nose. I was smelling burnt tyres and my colleague was getting overcooked bacon (I prefer his version!). This would need to mellow for me to really enjoy this wine. Once you get past the nose there is enormous power and depth of fruit. I note Allen Meadows suggests decanting this; that would be an interesting experiment.
