From magnum. This is a modern Rioja with an international style. While it might not be for old-school Rioja lovers, it is without doubt a very fine, highly complex and in no category over-the-top wine. The 2010 has beautifully aged and shows some first tertiary development but I guess this will reach its peak only in another 10 to 20 years, it certainly has the structure to age beautifully.
TN: Expressive ripe dark and bright red berries, menthol notes, a touch of brett, lots of crushed rocks. On the palate expressive dark berries, red fruit, some blue fruit, herbs and menthol, hints pf brett, first mushroom and leather notes. With time fine strawberries and strawberry candy. Modern but with a beautiful elegance and airiness you wouldn’t expect from this wine.
Decanting: This doesn’t need much air to open up. A short decant should be sufficient.

From Magnum. Intense fruit of dark cherry along with emerging aging notes of forest floor and tobacco. Herbal elements of eucalyptus. The intensity carries on on the palate where you’ll also find tension and broad mid-palate presence. Strong structure with grippy tannin, but seamlessly integrated. 95. From Magnum and hence maybe not representative, but judging by this another decade for peak performance ahead. On the palate minor aging notes expand the complexity, but does not interfere with increasing juicy freshness into the finish.

Dark cherries, blackberries, some soft licorice, green herbs and soft tobacco notes in the nose and on the palate. Oak is completely hidden behind the fruit. Medium (+) bodied with a lively medium (+) intense acidity. Beautiful velvety tannins, completely integrated. Beautiful complexity. Fantastic fruit structure and a great overall balance. Although the fruit is dominant here it feels very elegant and quite feminine. The finish is very long and juicy. With 1-2 hours in the decanter this beautiful Rioja is in a perfect spot now. No need to hurry though. Drink now until 2032. (IG)

1.5 L. Decanted it two hours before dinner. It was just perfect. Spectacularly complex and diverse, profound and serious. Ripe fruit, pepper, earth and cherries. The cork was stuck and had to filter it. One of the best wine bottles ever.

A powerhouse of a wine. Could use a few more years in the cellar
