Community Tasting Notes (average 94.2 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 162 notes)

Tasted by Anonymous on 1/24/2010: worst performance for this wine. came off very slightly oxidized. (320 views)
Tasted by rosenst1 on 1/17/2010 & rated 95 points: Opened at a large dinner with an 04 Marcassin Estate Chard. Lovely open nose of tropical fruits,
great intensity on the palate, with a refreshing acid spine which keeps the wine from being out of balance. I don't understand how Aubert manages to make wines of this size without them being flabby or hot; must be very low yields and careful vinification. The Marcassin was less exuberant and perhaps will be a better wine in a few years, but the Aubert was superior on this night. (244 views)
Tasted by DougLee on 12/28/2009 & rated 93 points: Cloudy, yellow gold. Nose of fresh cut flowers, slate, apricot, grapefruit. Tropical fruits galore on the palate energized by acidity and anchored by significant spine. Long finish characterized by almost frizzy fruit. Lovely. (376 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/26/2009 & rated 95 points: i have many consistent notes about this wine, so i won't bore you. of the three chards tonight, this was my favorite, splitting hairs against the 07. i'm unabashedly fond of this wine. (471 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/23/2009: Magnificent, my best bottle so far. It's shed its baby fat. Tropical melange of pears, guyabano, lychee. Excellent flavors. Long long finish. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. (482 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 12/23/2009 & rated 93 points: Cloudy, light gold appearance. Gorgeous, singing nose of rich white fruits and spice. Palate is impeccably balanced -- loaded with flavor while completely lithe from start to finish. Long, flavorful finish. (TN from memory at a casual dinner) (379 views)
Tasted by jbro on 11/29/2009 & rated 96 points: Meant not to open this, but did at the request of my 24 year old son in for Thanksgiving. He doesn't know much about wine, but knows that he likes this. With good reason. It has an awesome nose, absolutely consistent with the last two bottles opened--redolent of orange and lemon zest mixed with pineapple and other bright fruits. The color is light straw, with enough cloudiness to refract light. Great fruit on the tongue with balanced minerality and oak. The finish just goes on and on and on..... (606 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 11/20/2009 & rated 96 points: simply beautiful. mature, and sooo expressive. no baby fat, fully integrated oak, but that doesn't mean it isn't there, it means it's all in balance. sorry to gush, but this is such a pleasure to drink tonight. at the top of the domestic chard heap. (821 views)
Tasted by MarkC on 11/2/2009 & rated 96 points: Still short of its peak. After an hour, (and at a cooler temperature) I would have rated this 2-3 points less. However, at room temperature, and with 2+ hours of air, this is singing. Viscous, minerally, with hints of tart apple, loads of lemon oil, bits of tropical fruit, and plenty of acidity. What a spectacular wine. (951 views)
Tasted by jbro on 10/25/2009 & rated 96 points: Shared with an oenophile friend who called it the best chardonnay he had ever tasted. I wouldn't go that far but it is outstanding stuff. Golden color with a slight cloudiness that makes the color even richer.Citrus and peach on the nose, citrus, melon and caramel on the palate with a sixty second finish. Splendidly paired with a chicken baked with cinnamon and cummin. (926 views)
Tasted by jbro on 10/12/2009 & rated 93 points: So you read other people's tasting notes and wonder which ones really describe the wine. All of them--to some extent, but subjectively. This is a wine that is just a short of terrific. It was somewhat dumb at opening, at 55 degrees, but after an hour began to open and display a wide variety of subdued citrus flavors with some residual melony flavors.. The mouthfeel is slightly oily and unctious (what is unctious?) Nothing jumps out on the palate except the finish which goes on and on. Over three hours the wine displays a wide variety of characteristics, all of which were pleasing. Will wait six months to open the next bottle. (1015 views)
Tasted by sdr on 10/9/2009 & rated 88 points: Very nice chardonnay, but I can't get too excited. Linear, lighty tropical, very tasty to be sure in the tropical way. Consistent from beginning to end. I doubt it will change for the better with more time. (1073 views)
Tasted by vinojones on 10/6/2009 & rated 91 points: guessed by DW as Kistler/Patz ie ok to drink,,, to me heavier than I like but balance is good (1043 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 9/29/2009 & rated 95 points: simply delicious. the fruit from this vineyard really shines with fresh vitality. very nice. (1019 views)
Tasted by cjones6 on 9/27/2009 & rated 94 points: Large, lively, vanilla, citrus, pear, apple, wet stone. (1055 views)
Tasted by JJL on 9/2/2009 & rated 93 points: Lunch at Gramercy Tavern - Keith's bottle. Would never guess this was a CA Chard if tasted blind. No oak, but viscous, smokey, good acidity, not fruity, more brown flavors with a touch of melon, some salt and pepper on the finish. Try drinking with your eyes closed and could pass for a red. Case in point - held up well against a rustic lamb with pappardelle dish. (1235 views)
Tasted by SteveHoch on 8/20/2009 & rated 95 points: An Outstanding bottle. I believe the best chard from California. great nose of melons, tremedously intergrated fuit wonderful balance great mouthfeel. Touche of Vanillan . Oak is definitely not overpowering . Just great. (1281 views)

Tasted by Anonymous on 7/12/2009 & rated 97 points: Sublime. This is one of the best chardonnays we've ever had...a complete package with the oak well integrated and less of that cloudiness often typical of Auberts. Had with our anniversary celebration at St John last night. (1622 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 7/11/2009 & rated 95 points: second verse, same as the first. (1615 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 7/11/2009 & rated 95 points: first of two bottles opened, and they were indistinguishable from each other, both superb. i don't get the burgundy comparisons with aubert. this is a luscious, multi-layered chardonnay consisting of plenty of oak, and very ripe fruit. smooth and complex, a very long finish. fabulous. (1607 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 7/5/2009 & rated 95 points: a very complete wine showing balance in every component. layered, complex structure, and a bit of interesting spice in the finish. (1667 views)
Tasted by spotfin on 6/28/2009 & rated 95 points: One of the best Chardonnays I ever had. (1572 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 6/27/2009 & rated 93 points: Soft, creamy, delicious citrus fruit with vanillin and melony flavors, could use a little more acid, nice finish (1631 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
