The Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2012 from Nelson comes from gravel, gravel from the Pliocene and Peistocene, alluvial soil with topsoil of sandy loam and gravel-interspersed limestone marl. The wine has reached a pleasant maturity, has a lot of body, seems almost a little austere, in any case powerful and punchy and to some it seemed too international with a little too much wood. I thought the wood was very well chosen and saw the wine at a high level. Five years ago, it was said: "But those who had not tasted the wine the evening before were partly enthusiastic. In part, however, they found the wine a little too pomaded. In the end, the impression remained of a noble, elegant Chardonnay, and that's a good thing." In principle, the wine has not really changed, it has simply become more mature and a little more balanced.

Hey, is this a Kiwi Chardonnay? Seriously!? Wow, shockingly good. Light yellow. Great aromas of pears, lemons and cantaloupe. Great oak integration with oranges, lemons and lightly toasted almonds on the palate. Acidity present, as it should be, but not that too often overwhelming Kiwi-like attack. Yup, a winner! Over-priced, in our humble opinion, but a very, very happy and NEW experience from NZ.

This wine has many elements coming together now. A fairly big style which is enjoyable for what it is. Some alcoholic heat on the finish, but...
