Barolo in all but name (he released it after 3 years instead of 4 and declassified to Langhe Nebbiolo)
Holding up nicely after 33 years. Quite tertiary but still some dried rapsberry and cherry notes kicking around. Rotten wood, dried herbs, incense, old leather, forest floor, tobacco. The most surprising thing about this was the tannins - they're still firm! So, based on that it could go even longer. Based on the flavors, probably not. Great example of aged modern style Barolo. It has held up well.

An aged tasting of Elio Altare wines with Silvia Altare (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Again smells like rotting furry animals... lots of intense herbs and spices, too. Some nice spicy notes, like a spiced liquor. Rich palate entry that's soft in texture. Tart and puckering, but pretty mellow without much fruit. Intense notes on the finish and very puckering at the end. Again, not much fruit present.

Great Italian Night in Vancouver (A Nice Italian Restuarant): Lovely nose with floral and truffle merging. Wow, is this ever a good food wine! With a black truffle pasta, it is nearly perfect. Long in the mouth and showing excellent acids. Tart red cherries, blackberries and a touch of fresh cranberries. Some shitake mushroom. Really super wine and not showing much of its age.
