My WOTN in a vertical of a number of vintages of Chadwick and Sena between 1997 to 2021. Initially the nose was not giving much but opened up to reveal well-handled ripe fruit, strong acidity and an elegant, sophisticated wine.
Most backward wine of the flight. Still youthful in character. Dried flower, blackcurrant, blackberries, pungent peppers, wild herbs such as sage, cedar, camphor, graphite, smoky and toasty oak. Full body, punchy fruitiness with abundant ripe sweet tannins. All supported by the fine, zesty acidity. Will turn out to be great. 14.0%abv

What a wine! The nose is typical Chilean Cabernet but with a sense of elegance and harmony that completes the power. Notes of black currant, blackberry and green pepper. The oak influence is here but very subtle. Some notes of chocolate, spices and pencil shavings start showing only after a bit. But the most amazing is the palate. There is power but the craft, the precision, the elegance are incredible. This wine is an iron fist in a velvet glove. The tannin structure is present but silky, subtle. Some delicate cedar, red berry juice and anise notes lead to a long and creamy finish. Yum!

Birthday bottle. Great dark colour. Decanted for 2-3 hours. Very impressive on the nose. I just kept on smelling it. Lovely very silky smooth feeling in the mouth. It tasted like plums, dark fruit, cigar box. It evolved with every sip and every glass. Very complex and refined and I was constantly busy with trying to find out what I was tasting.
Very very good!
(I did notice it was a bit on the young side, it will be even better in 5 to 10 years).
