Served blind and I would not have guessed Cali Chard. This is the more crisp style and didn't really set off my anti-Chard feelings although nor is it a wine that I found particularly enjoyable. Drinks well for it's age. Some petrol to it.

Hanging on to life by a very, very thin thread, you could sense a bit of lemon buried in the petrol nose and finish to make it interesting to taste a California Chardonnay at close to 40 years of age.

Mayacamas Chardonnays from the 1970s and 1980s; 3/23/2006-3/24/2006 (Palo Alto): (3rd Place) 13.5% Alc. Very light yellow and transparent. Great honeysuckle nose with less acid than the others. Something about this wine was more unique than the others. Maybe a different fruit source. Intersting also was that the finish wasn't as jagged as the others. I wish I knew how each one of these wines were made. Great tasting of old Chardonnay.
