Upon first opening and nose I thought it was gone or absent of interesting qualities; only some very light butter, almond, and apple. Began to change dramatically within 5 minutes and became lush for a while, with ginger, vanilla, more forward almond, and some toasted spice. Finish is gorgeous. Another bottle we opened thinking “this will be well past its prime” and it was a great tasting experience. Alcohol 13%-- remember the days when? . . .

Mayacamas Chardonnays from the 1970s and 1980s; 3/23/2006-3/24/2006 (Palo Alto): (2nd Place) 13.5% Alc. Very light yellow and transparent. Flavors of butter on the nose. Seemed a touch higher in alcohol than the others with a slight biting finish.
