What a fantastic Christmas Eve “present”. Having held onto this for a good 15 years, watching the auction value double, then triple, opened this bottle with some trepidation, given Jancis’ negative review, and Alan Meadows’ lukewarm one a couple of years after the vintage. How wrong they both were ! And I can only echo the sentiments of the last reviewer. Brick red colour turning almost dark orange. Spectacular nose of red cherries, blackberries, forest floor and classic Burgundy barn-yard. And for a “lesser” vintage, the palate is just incredible. Sublime depth, and complexity, yet smoothness, freshness and silky tannins. Finally a long, long finish. Wow ! Just wow ! Bravo Rousseau!

Let’s just start by saying this is so Rousseau. Even though it’s supposed to be a not so good vintage, it is fabulous. I get immediately some black berry, crudite sticks out (emphasis on the raw peppers) and some barnyardy wet earth. Its nose reminds me of walking the vineyards in burgundy in the fall. It’s medium bodied, medium color and just wonderful to drink. Mixture of seeet, chewy, complex, etc. impeccable mouthfeel too. I dare someone to speak poorly of this wine or vintage.

These are going up in price for good reason … even for a lousy vintage, this wine is impressive. Early professional reviews were mediocre but over time this had come around and shows you how good a producer Rousseau is. This wine is probably not gonna last much longer but it’s singing now. Opened up quickly very nice mix of dark and red fruits with a hint of that good burgundy barnyard funk.

Etheral smell of wet forest floor and still has fruit to spare. Very nice aftertaste. Would not wait on this too long.
