Wonderful beguiling wine where everything just knits together, gentle fading strawberry fruit, subtle spice and very complete. This is super smooth, with a very long warm (but not hot) finish, just a shame about the astronomical price!

Deeper darker color than the 2004 Groffier Chambertin Clos de Beze. Gorgeous aromas of dark wild berries, intense florals & asian spice and forest-floor. Quite powerful but silky palate shows good depth to the earthy sweet dark berries, medium (+) acidity, savory herbs, melting tannins and an intensely perfumed floral/asian spice tinged finish. This is an amazing 2004!

Maybe I'm a little drunk but even then this is phenomenal. Forest floor, lots of it, lots of woodsy stuff, super expressive. Total wow... Same eviceral feeling as a $2000 bottle of Richebourg. I'm absolutely flabbergasted, this is so good, given the vintage. A complete Bonnes Mares. Yes the score is high but it's one one the very best wimes I've had in the last year. Regardless of price.
Next day -- the taste still lingers. I still can't believe it was that good.

Tung's Birthday (Monkey Year Wines) (Aoki Restaurant, Shaw House, Singapore): An absolutely delicious 2004 wine. This was a great way to end the lunch. It had lovely nose, with wafts of toast and spice swirling around sweet red cherry and blueberry aromas, all these weighted down with a lovely accent of damp earth and sous bois. Nary a hint of green on this. It actually felt really youthful and lively on the palate too, with fresh acidity and fine tannins framing deep, full, powerful flavours of red cherries and darker berries, these seasoned with a lovely mouthful of warm Morey spice. Great long finish too, with the deep fruit bedded down with a nice bit of earth and mineral. Absolutely delicious stuff - a powerful wine, in pure Bonnes Mares fashion, yet this was pure and transparent, with a noble elegance to it. Yummy, with its best years ahead of it yet.

(Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares) Medium red color with pale meniscus; brett, tart red fruit nose; brett, tart red fruit, smoke, mineral palate with green notes; medium-plus finish (I've liked this wine better on prior occasions, but the brett level on this bottle was higher than on prior bottles)
(Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares) Dark red color with clear meniscus; big, focused rosehips nose; tasty, roses, cherry, rosehips palate with good depth; medium-plus finish
(Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares) Pale red color; entrancing Burgundian nose; ripe strawberry, lovely ripe fruit with caramel note, mineral and sappy sweet medium finish
