If tasted blind, I would have likely pegged this as Shiraz from Australia - extracted and jammy. Don't know whether it was the year or the intended style, but the result is an intense fruit soup with an alcoholic finish. Label says 15%, but assume that is conservative.

Deep purple colour and garnet rims Potent nose of crushed balck fruits (cherry, blackcurrant) with tar, cedar, liquorice, a touch of menthol Full-bodied wine with huge intensity of aromas (black fruits, strawberry, cigar box...), a very very long length. Big acidity that helps in a big way in making that exercise drinkable. Very interesting, excellently balanced and very good in a powerful way (15% alc).

Occasional tasting group: France: Languedoc. (@ JdZ): This is super. Even more concentration and elegance than the normal cuvee. (Full bodied, complex, black fruits, chocolate, spices, sweetness. Soft tannin, pleasant acidity. Concentrated and elegant.) A higher score, but about 8 times more expensive than the normal cuvee and I wonder if it is worth the price difference.

Dense fruit is offset by a beautiful, penetrating minerality. I love this wine.

Etonnant.
