Gaston Chiquet Special Club Vertical: This was the big surprise for me. Walked a wobbly line between richness and lively acidity. The Chardonnay was on display with lots of citrus and undertones of honey and almond.
It had the most developed secondary flavors. Sure, it was the oldest of all the wines but its shape and development were a surprise.
While the '08 was the best of the evening this was certainly a dark horse.

Champagne Garden Brunch (Mitch and Mary's, Mahtomedi, MN): Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. Cream soda, cedar, woodsy, quince nose. The palate is tart Tatin, lemon paste, broad and full bodied, lightly toasted.

Luftig og elegant. Mangler litt punch i forhold til tidligere årganger. Er på den unge siden, så vil nok legge på seg litt vekt. Flasken ble uansett tom på et blunk.👌

Bryan's Epic Birthday Bash (Gwen): At dinner. Brief note. Pnp. Fine mousse and bubbles. Nose and palate are elegant and round in a resolved way. Lemon, baked apples, brioche, sea breeze, crushed chalk. Very creamy midpalate is full of great acidity to focus the citrus and minerals. With time, pastry cream and vanilla bean turn up. Very satisfying long finish has good complexity. This is at peak for my palate but will probably hold up for 2-3 more years.
