  • When I first began to drink and buy wine in the early 80's CVNE and similar traditional Rioja producers were my reference points for interesting red wines - especially the 66's, 70's and 73's. Despite the flurry of modern winemaking throughout Spain I've remained a fan and advocate of traditional riojas (white and red). This bottle does not help the cause. Very full colour, dry, dusty intrusive tannins, insufficient fruit. Not a bad bottle I think, but a poorly made wine. Discouraging.

  • A perfect match with rosemary and garlic seasoned leg of lamb and roasted fingerling potatoes.

The wine seems about fully mature. Plum skin and cedar notes and a little tobacco leaf. Soft entry that actually gained some structure as it opened. Just the right acidity to keep it from being too soft. Tannins almost completely resolved in this bottle. Very enjoyable.
