Translucent cherry red in color. A fragrant floral nose. On the palate the fruit is pure and silky. It shows cherries, bit of blueberry and roasted meats, spice. Round tannins (need to soften a bit), great acidity and balance. Finishes long and subtle with cherry notes. It needs 3 to 4 years to peak, but it drinks very well now.

Bright berry fruit on the nose. Lush cherry fruit on the palate, warm spices, bit of rare roast meat. The fruit has an almost crystalline quality across the palate. Firm, finely polished tannins, great acidity and balance. Long, long finish; the fruit is darker and the spice more evident, but all in balance. Lovely stuff. Give it 3 to 4 years to peak and it will probably drink well long past that.

Domestic Only- Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Reddish violet with pale rim, good clarity; raspberry, ash, high toned and elegant on the nose, tart red fruit, subtle beautiful power, nice tart fruit, talc texture, pomegranate, underbrush; delicious, better than previous bottle.

Rhone, lots of it (Chicago, IL): From magnum. I didn't like this anywhere as much as I did last year. It's clearly a heady wine, with tons of fruit, but there's also a fair bit of ripeness and alcohol here, and I think that between the last time I tasted this and now, the wine has started to shut down a bit, so the luscious fruit that once used to counterweight the alcohol is not on full display, leading to a lot of heat and alcohol poking out now.

Very elegant, almost Burgundian but on steroids
