Superb wine and drinking very nicely. At first there is slight acetone on the nose, although it is not unpleasant. Alongside there are floral notes of orange and garden herbs. As it opens up there’s more oak, spices, black pepper, dark chocolate, coffee.
It is initially light and balanced with a perfect harmony of oak and sweetness - a very well rounded wine. There is also apricot, strawberry and more garden herbs. This doesn’t taste like a 10-year old wine until an hour or so later at which point the intensity has had a chance to deepen in the glass. The tannins, always there, are now more prominent and time has brought caramel, more coffee, milk chocolate, marzipan, fresh figs and some new citrus (lime and perhaps even ripe mango) along for the ride. A very pleasant experience indeed. Drink now.

Oenocosmos Wine Fair (Intercontinental Hotel): Medium intensity, full ripe red fruit, earthy and gamey but lively altogether, coffee notes. The palate goes down the same path, ripe fruit, sweet spices, big smooth tannins, oaky, long finish

Gramona + Roda Spanish Wine Dinner (Table at 7): Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of vanilla milk chocolate, red plums, concentrated red berries, hints of earth. Developing. on the palate, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), very soft silky medium tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red plums, concentrated red berries, sweet spice, vanilla, milk chocolate. Medium finish. Very good quality. Lovely soft silky texture that makes this so approachable now, though it can develop a bit more earthy notes and oak slightly more integrated in another 3-4 years. One for lovers of, not haters of vanilla oak. For me, I just rate it objectively. This is indeed a well-made modern style Rioja.
