"The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Chicago, IL): Kind of a dull, uninteresting wine. It ticks the right boxes and it's clearly correct, but lacking any excitement. Truth be told, the same could be said across the entire Fonsalette Syrah lineup -- the wines just don't taste enough like the northern Rhone. "But," the inevitable complaint begins, "this isn't from the northern Rhone." So what? With maybe a few Australian exceptions, if you can't make syrah like you do in the northern Rhone, why bother?

This was drinking like a superb mature bordeaux with some spices and overall resolved tannins. Lots of cigar box flavours and dark berries. This bottle was just starting to dry out a little and not as long on the palate.

Wow nose of bacon fat, roasted meat, BBQ sauce, cerise du Nord, Soy sauce... super saline taste, cerise griotte & cerise rouge mûre.... very very long aftertaste 45 sec!!

I just had a sip of this wine, but I remembered that is was more mature nose than the 1989... also the taste was more mature with ripe cherries and the typical salty licorice finish, it was still fresh and longuer than the 1989... amazing wine that was supposed to be used for making sauces at la Beaugraviere ;-)

Had a glass last night at a dinner party. This wine is amazing! After 24 years, its still young and delicious. A most unusual cotes du rhone!
